The Concrete Raising Company specializes in mudjacking in the Salt Lake City area. Our services are effective for lifting and leveling concrete slabs, driveways, RV pads, concrete steps, and even foundations. Over the years, we have helped untold numbers of clients save money on concrete repairs by avoiding the more expensive, and often unnecessary, job of ripping out old concrete and replacing it.

Concrete leveling is generally accomplished by mudjacking, also called slabjacking.

Mudjacking process on concrete steps

Mudjacking

Mudjacking is the original form of concrete lifting developed in the 1930s. Contractors back then would use hydraulic pumps to inject a material into the soil underneath sinking concrete, thereby propping it up and providing permanent support underneath.

The substance was generally a mixture of local soils along with sand and cement. Today, mudjacking materials are similar. Local soils are combined with Portland cement, water, and another aggregate when necessary. That aggregate might be gravel or sand.

Our 5-Step Process

  1. Evaluation – We first evaluate the sinking slab and surrounding soil to determine where problems are occurring. The simplest of jobs involve only one area of sinking. More complex jobs could require treating several areas.
  2. Drilling – Once we know what we are working with, we drill holes in the concrete at strategic locations. These are the portals we use to inject the filler mud.
  3. Injection – An injection hose connected to our hydraulic pump is inserted into the holes. We then inject the concrete soil-based materials directly under the slab. The pressurized material fills the voids and begins lifting up on the concrete.
  4. Leveling – While the pump does its work, we are constantly monitoring the concrete’s level, and when our equipment tells us that it is in its original poured position, we turn off the pump and remove the hose.
  5. Finishing – The last step is to clean up any excess material and fill the holes. We use a special admixture concrete patch to fill drill holes and finish them off.

Once our crew is done filling drill holes and cleaning up the sidewalk, patio, driveway, etc. it will be ready for use within two hours. Unlike pouring new concrete, customers do not have to wait for days before they can use the repaired area.

How and Why It Works

Mudjacking is an effective way to repair sinking concrete without having to fully replace it. Contractors like us have been using the procedures the last 100 years. Why? Because it works.

When concrete starts sinking, it is because the underlying soil support is starting to give way. This could be due to a number of reasons, including gradual soil erosion, heavy rains and flooding, prolonged drought, improper soil compaction, and even excess weight on top of the concrete.

Because the soil-based filler materials are designed to cure as hard as rock, there is no worry of the material eroding the structure. As such, the fix is deemed permanent. If any future sinking were to occur, it would likely be the result of other soil giving way under the structure and not likely due to the filler material failing.

Lift Your Concrete and Save

If any concrete structure on your property is sinking, we invite you to contact us to learn more about how concrete lifting can save it. Do not assume you need to rip out and replace. In most cases, simply lifting the structure back into place and providing underlying support will fix the issue.

The Concrete Raising Company proudly offers mudjacking services throughout Salt Lake City. From driveways to sidewalks and foundations, we raise them all with a proven process that contractors have been employing for more than 100 years.
